Product Description It is always nice to win a game quickly. But some opening traps are based only on hopes that the opponent will make a serious mistake. If the opponents play correctly, the trap could backfire. On this DVD Susan will take you through a number of opening traps & short games. The best December 20, 2005 Melania (Red Bank, NJ) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
I bought these DVDs for my 3 kids who are rated between 600 - 1200. They are glued to them and have learned a lot from the series. I also enjoy these DVDs as well. I can't wait for the next volume.
Excellent Instruction December 19, 2005 Vendala (Rome, Italy) 8 out of 8 found this review helpful
The last reviewer wrote the dumbest thing. There're free info about medical issues online. Then why do people go to the doctors? Of course everything in every chess book or DVD can be obtained elsewhere for free. But the point of having a GM explaining it is what people pay for. This is the same reason why people pay to take chess lessons with GM. There're are millions of chess players who see the same position but don't understand it. This is where videos like this come in. Ms. Polgar goes through details and explain everything in a very easy to understand manner. Many beginners don't make it out of the openings. In this video, Ms. Polgar explained ways to avoid opening traps and pitfalls. This is not for advanced players. It's for beginners and novice players. The quality of the video is fantastic.
Free Internet, Software is 1000 traps December 18, 2005 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
She teaches you how to avoid getting mated in tricks used against beginners at chess. The other traps are shown from games, but these traps are listed on websites, and the only ones who don't know the traps are beginners. So if you really want to learn the traps, then you have to play beginner's who will fall for them, but this gets kind of old, because you're really not understanding how to play chess. And you really aren't gonna play someone who uses these traps, because if you don't fall for them, then they're gonna lose the game ---cause their pieces are out of position! Some of the games are interesting, but otherwise, if you want to know traps, you could spend your money on software at Chessbase that gives 1000 traps for you. I think the 1000 traps CD is listed at wholesale chess and chesscentral also. But you know, traps is for advanced players. Still, if you really want to know them, probably better to get the 1000 traps, then you at least get all of them and not just a few. *** Summary: Consider to buy the software CD called, 1000 Openings Traps.
I use this DVD series for my after school chess program December 9, 2005 Ann Venutolo (Detroit, Michigan) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
Well done, simple to understand, very good quality. Roman's series' too advance. Other series look like they were filmed in someone's basement. This is the best by far. The kids must have watched this series 50 times already. I can't wait for the next volume.
Highest Quality Chess Instructional DVD December 8, 2005 Andrew (London) 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
This is by far the highest quality chess instructional DVD on the market. GM Polgar is one of the most well known chess players, authors and coaches in chess. She makes things easy to understand with this DVD. I own all six volumes and would highly recommend it.
