5 out of 5 stars Best pc game of the 90's   April 22, 2008

Plot - Rid areas from criminals by commanding Swat team units against Bank Robbers, Terrorist, Kidnappers, and Drug Traffickers etc... Or play the Terrorist and wreak havoc while trying to keep the Swat team away.

Graphics - The graphics aren't all that great, but gameplay sure makes up for it. Keep in mind this game was released in 98, so don't worry about having a faster/newer computer. My computer is 7 years old and runs Swat 2 perfectly.

Missions - Around 30 missions in all. 15 for the Swat, and 15 for the Terrorist. I find playing with the Swat team is much easier. When you're the terrorist, you don't have time to fart about because the Swat team will surround you in no time. Playing with the Swat team gives you more control.

Swat Team - You command units. Each unit has 5 team members in it. You can use however many units you see fit for any mission. I only use one unit for every mission. It's hard enough to command 5 men/women around.
You also have the option to use a sniper unit, which consist of two snipers. I never use them.

Equipment - You can definitely pack a lot of equipment. Shotgun, Mp5, Pistol, Medical Packs to heal wounded team members or civilians & criminals, bombs, tear gas, gas mask (make sure you have it on your team members when launching tear gas), flashbang to stun enemies etc..

Arresting Criminals - When you approach an armed criminal, first you can issue a command for them to drop all weapons and surrender. If they choose not to, you can try to use non-lethal weaponary to see if that works. If they still refuse, you have the option to open fire on them. Sometimes they don't die and you can heal them with a medi pack, then arrest them. Either way, when they surrender you click on one of your teammates and click the handcuff button to arrest them. Once they are arrested, you lead them back to base with one of your team members. When issuing these commands, be sure to kneel down the commanding officer behind something for cover. These guys will open fire at you at any time. I forgot, you can also negotiate over the phone. So sometimes you can wait around before entering an area to see if they will negotiate first.

Rescuing Hostages - When you see a hostage, deal with the Kidnapper first, then rescue the hostage and lead them back to base with one of your team members so they'll be safe. If you see a regular citizen walking around, go ahead and detain them too, just for safety.

Doors/Entrances - Before entering anything, you can always use the mirror to see if any criminals are in the area behind the door. Sometimes the door is locked and must be picked. Sometimes that doesn't work. If the door is barricaded, you can bust it in or blow it up.

Helicopter/Tanks - A Helicopter can be called in for surveilance or transporting your team. Tanks will bust down those barricaded doors ;).

Commanding - It's all about point and click. Nothing fancy, but you better get your mouse finger ready.

Other - You can have k9 dogs helping you too. One of your officers must be trained to have one with him though. You have a lot of guys on the force you can pick for your units. All specialize in certain areas. They can also get suspended, die, fired, and recieve awards. It's pretty awesome.

I used own this game LOOOOOONG time ago when I was like, in the 5th grade. The replay of this game reminds me that of Starcraft. I would play it to the ground, then stop for a few months, then play it to the ground again. I absolutly loved it. I'm actually writing to see if anybody's selling a copy. I lost my cd long ago and I really wanna play it now.... If anyone has a copy that WILL play with a minimum amount of scratchs, and no deep scratchs, THE THING HAS TO PLAY, I'll buy it for like, $0.0.0 bucks or somthin.

4 out of 5 stars A classic PC game + ABOUT BUGS   February 10, 2006

About In-Game Bugs:
To the people who bitch about the bugs in this game: UPDATE IT YOU FOOLS! Goto the game maker's website and download the update. If you can't find it, do a search online for "SWAT 2 Updates" or something. Use Webcrawler.com instead of Google. Webcrawler is a META Search Engine, so what it does is it searches using a bunch of search engines including Google, Ask Jeeves, Yahoo, Altavista, etc etc and filters out the best results. Plus, it's been around alot longer than Google and doesn't contain any spyware unlike Google.

Anyway, back to the game. This is a classic game and continues in the tradition of Police Quest. The legacy continues even today with the popular hit SWAT 4 and the new SWAT 4 Expansion Pack. SWAT 3 was an amazing game and was even named Game of the Year. Infact, there are some elements to SWAT 2 and SWAT 3 that are even better than the current #4 title, such as in SWAT 2 you can play as the Terrorist and in SWAT 3 there was fantastic Multiplayer capability with excellent weapon/map mod/upgrades, as well as better Squad and Communications navigation and layout.

So, if you're into playing classic, fun games, then this is right up your alley. This game isn't old enough to be completely outdated and confusing or incompatible with your computer system.

I recommend buying the Police Quest Collection / Police Quest Compilation as well as this title.

5 out of 5 stars A real SWAT officers review   April 3, 2003
A T & T Universal Platinum Card (Omaha , NE United States)
I bought this game because i just wanted something that reflects on my work. I usually dont play video games so i was origionally planing on just buying it for my neice so she could see kind of what i do for a living. When i installed it into the computer i decided to play it a bit to see if it was what i really do. Well let me tell you this, i dont think it could get any more realistic. My neice is 14 and she plays it whenever she is at my house....she never really understood what i did for a living and now that she has played this game i think it pretty much summed it up for her.

5 out of 5 stars The Greatness of it all!   July 21, 2002

SWAT2 is sweet! It should be honored as the best game on the whole entire planet. Those who do not bow before the power of SWAT2 will surely be struck down by several lightnin... never mind that. If you dont like this game, oh well, i cant help that. But anyway, as I was saying, this is wonderful and I must say that it is easily the best game that I have ever seen. Such versatility! Play as either LAPD or the terrorists! Can you do that in SWAT3? I dont think so (although I may be wrong and if I am then go buy yourself a new hat). But you get the picture, this is a great game.
