3 out of 5 stars Halfway there   October 29, 2008
mykle
I've used a Goldtouch Mac keyboard for two years now. Nine of my fingers love it, but my left pinkie joint is inflamed by the terrible, awkward, undeniably faulty positioning of the Control key. Groping for it, I frequently hit the Help, Num Lock or Power key by accident. That's not very ergonomic. Keyovation should fix that. But if you don't use the Control key, you won't care.

When I first got the keyboard I contacted their support department for some assistance in re-mapping that key. They were nice and friendly but said it couldn't be done. That's not very ergonomic either. Keyovation should fix that too.

The adjustable angle is great, especially for laptoppers 'cause you can flatten it for packing in your backpack. It works, but over time the clutch on mine has grown a little bit loose. Then, yesterday, the locking arm fell right off. (Keep in mind, that's after two years of heavy use -- your mileage may vary.) I'm hoping Keyovation will fix that, but I haven't heard back yet ...

The last thing I can say about the GoldTouch is that if you use it in public you will get interrupted a lot by people who think it's cool and want to know all about it. Usually they'll ask where you got it and how much it costs. I could have made some decent money as a keyboard salesman by now, if I could only recommend the thing a bit more highly.

4 out of 5 stars Great for mouse & keyboard user   September 19, 2008

I love this keyboard.

I was having issues, not only with my wrists, but also in my shoulder. The small footprint and removal of the number pad allows me to place my mouse closer - eliminating much of the pain I was experiencing in my shoulder.

Perhaps I have a different model than the other reviewers, but I have no problem with the materials.

My only complaint is the moving of some keys, like ctrl, which is place annoying close to help and pwr.

I have had this keyboard for a few months.

The good: it feels good in the hands, I like that the angle is customizable, the keys feel great, though I'm not entirely sure I couldn't get the same level of comfort from the microsoft natural I used to have. One thing this has over the natural is this is made for a mac.

The bad: The control key, as someone else mentioned, is in an annoying location, and as an emacs and heavy shell user I'm constantly using the control key. furthermore, the 6 key is on the wrong side. Also, it's pricey.

That being said, I still like this keyboard well enough to give it a 4 since I was able to work around the control key issue and it is pretty much exactly what I'm looking for otherwise. Incidentally, I don't use the option key very often and it it happens to be exactly where my pinkey lands when looking for the control key. It was quite easy to remap the keys under the system preferences->keyboard & mouse -> modifier keys. I actually use this with my macbook pro and it's pretty nice that you can set profiles for different keyboards. I can leave the internal laptop keyboard mapped standard, and this external keyboard mapped with ctrl and option swapped. Still blows my mind that they would be so careless with their placement of the control key, but it's easily fixed in my case.

2 out of 5 stars What a cheap mess   June 18, 2008

I've used split keyboards before and wanted to go back since my wrists started to hurt again recently so I ordered one of these. If you are typing on this rather cheaply made keyboard, then you are fine but if you are like me and need to use modifier keys with graphics programs, then you'll hate this keyboard. They have mysteriously taken the control off of the left side and stuck a Help key in between it and option. Then they stuck a Power key above that with a numlock key kitty corner from it as well. It makes using the control key almost impossible as its like using your finger to navigate a mine field of uncommon keys that will invariably interrupt you (a power down notice, your letters typing numbers or a help window opening). And to further add to the mess, the command key is way off to the left so you will spend a while mashing command shift, thinking it's command-z or strain to reach over your thumb to hit command-t. Clearly not designed by someone who has used a Mac. Terrible - sending it back.

5 out of 5 stars BEST ERGO KEYBOARD FOR THE MAC   December 17, 2007

This is the BEST!!!
Well-made, well-designed. Solid-feel, with easy, light key action, and great adjustment features. Takes up little desk space, even less than the Apple keyboard because I can slide the top of my Wacom tablet under it a little (which I use that to relieve mouse strain in my overworked right hand). This model has all the keys I need without the numeric pad which I never ever used anyhow. I do miss the F13 key, but have selected the F1 key to take it's place. The keys are beveled as on the Apples. I've tried other ergo models by other makers which fell apart within a year and had heavy key action that did more damage than good. Highly recommended!
